BIOGRAPHY

Theodora was born on the 5th July 1947 in Lapithos, Cyprus.

She was the eldest girl out of her 12 siblings.

Theodora moved to London in 1964, she was 17 years old.

Not long after she met her husband Riko, they got married in 1967.

They went onto have their three children, Maria, Jovanna and Michael.

Theodora was very hardworking, she worked two jobs as a machinist.

Her and her husband decided to emigrate to Cyprus in 1991 but always travelled backwards and forwards to look after her grandchildren during the holidays.

She lived for every summer when all her family would go to Cyprus for the summer holiday’s, it was pure chaos but she loved it and enjoyed cooking for us all as food was her way of pleasing everyone, You could never walk out of her house without a plate and a bit of foil.

In 2019, they decided to come back to London because her husband Riko was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

The last 5 years she enjoyed spending time with her family, attending family gatherings and special occasions which she missed out on when she lived in Cyprus.

In February 2024 Theodora fell unwell and went into hospital, she was in hospital for 7 months with no diagnosis but constantly getting infection after infection which made her weaker and weaker.

On the 12th of October she was surrounded by all her family as they watched her take her last breath.

EULOGY

Our mum, our yiayia, the head of our family.
we wasn’t ready for this neither would we have ever been.
You were the strongest woman we ever knew who always put others first.

You were the best cook, everyone knew you for your food. Who ever came into your home,
you would feed them till they burst and then you would look at them and say “Ei bashines”.

You were the best yiayia, deeply loved by all 11 of your grandchildren,
We will always remember the summers with all 20 of us, it was pure chaos, you preparing our sandwiches for the beach, us arguing over the shower, boys arguing over the Wi-Fi and not forgetting 20 of us sleeping all over the place.

You would always call us a month before to ask what food we wanted and had a menu ready for us. Fridges always full with our favourite drinks, afgolemoni was always waiting for us when we arrived, followed by a big breakfast every morning and even though we drove you crazy,
you looked forward to those summers every year, that’s what you lived for.

Yiayia who was very proud of her three children, Maria, Jovanna and Michael.
She loved family gatherings, loved cooking for everyone and created a sense of belonging that will forever be cherished.

We hope you know that you left this world feeling so loved.
We can imagine you’re up there now cooking for everyone and smiling down with so much love for us all.

On behalf of your children we will miss you very much mum, you will forever be in our hearts and on behalf of your grandchildren, we were very lucky to have you as our yiayia.

We Love you x
